Everything you need in your backpack for the Camino de Santiago
You will spend hours with the backpack in tow, every gram within it counts. Release unnecessary weight from your back
carrying only the essentials. This is what you should carry in your backpack to do the Camino de Santiago:
Essential in the Camino de Santiago backpack
Backpack
The backpack itself is important. A lightweight and comfortable backpack will make it easier for you to carry everything in it. Choose one that suits your back and allows you to walk easily.
Hiking shoes
Choose comfortable shoes suitable for the time of year in which you are going to take the road. If you do it in winter you will need waterproof shoes that keep your feet warm at low temperatures. However, in summer it is advisable to wear footwear that transpires and is fresh. If your feet overheat it will be easier for the dreaded blisters to appear. If your hiking shoes are not waterproof, to avoid wetting your feet on rainy days you can use leggings that cover your shoes.
Flip flops
Wearing a pair of extra slippers or flip-flops to change when you reach the end of the stage will allow your feet to rest from hiking boots.
T-shirts
You will need 3 shirts. One to walk, one to put when you reach the end of the stage and a replacement to walk the next day.
Pants
As with the shirts you will need 3: two to walk and one to change when you arrive at your accommodation. In summer you can wear some shorts or transformable, but always at least one long, sometimes it refreshes.
Sweatshirt
Even if you make the way in summer you should wear a sweatshirt or sweater that you will need at sunset or early in the morning. If you make the road in winter, you will need more than one coat. A lightweight and waterproof hood with feathers is a good solution to combat cold and rain.
Socks
Socks are as important as footwear. The most advisable thing is to use socks without seams to avoid chafing. Depending on the season of the year, choose warm socks for winter and cool socks for summer. Walking with cold or very hot feet is not comfortable.
Underwear
Do not forget the underwear. Choose comfortable clothes, if it has no seams or is better sports type.
Toilet kit to do the Camino de Santiago
sunscreen cream
Rain, snow or sun, you should use sunscreen cream every day. You will spend many hours outdoors, to avoid possible burns apply sunscreen at least twice a day. Do not trust the cloudy days, the sun's rays, the clouds also penetrate.
Body soap and shampoo
Take a small boat with liquid soap that serves body and hair so you will avoid carrying extra weight.
Brush and toothpaste
Put a small tube of toothpaste in the backpack, enough for the number of days you are going to make the path.
Towel
Choose a light and quick-drying towel. Microfiber meet these conditions.
