Where to get the pilgrim's credential?

One of the most common doubts of the Camino de Santiago is about the pilgrim's credential of the Camino. When you make your way for the first time, it is normal to feel lost and not even know where to start. The credential of the Camino is like the guide of the Camino de Santiago where you record all the stages of our trip. The seals are obtained in the shelters, town halls, local shops or parishes through which we pass through.

When doing our Camino de Santiago tour groups, this information is given to the pilgrims before starting the Camino. So that you don't have to wait until that moment, we bring you a complete article about everything you need to know about the pilgrim's credentials.

Why is it important to seal the pilgrim's credential?

The credential is the document that accredits us as pilgrims. Only with the pilgrim's credential properly sealed, can we get the Compostela at the end of the way.

Its price ranges between fifty cents and two euros, depending on where we buy it.

Where to get the credential of the Camino de Santiago?

To get the Camino credential we have different options:

  • In the Friends of the Camino de Santiago de España associations
  • Pilgrim's Office
  • In hostels and parishes or in the Brotherhoods of the Apostle Santiago

Where is the credential sealed?

To seal the credential we have two options: either with the official and traditional seals in churches, parishes, museums, town halls, lodges ... or with commercial seals in local shops or bars.

How many stamps do I need?

To get the Compostela of the Camino de Santiago it is necessary to seal the credential at least once for each locality where we sleep. Even so, as there is not a maximum of stamps, there are many pilgrims who prefer to fill all their stamp books.

An important point is that in order to grant us the official certificate of the Camino de Santiago, we must have made at least the last 100 kilometers on foot or on horseback, or in the case of cycling, the last 200 km.
