If we prefer to complete only the first section, we will start in Porto, with its charming old town declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, and we will finish in the historic town of Baiona, already in Galicia, in just one week. This section enters Galicia from the town of Caminha, crossing the river Minho in a Ferry.

Itinerary
  1. Porto

Arrival in Porto, a beautiful city with a charming old town declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Take the opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful and important cities in Portugal, taking a walk on the banks of the Douro River or trying some of its exquisite local dishes.

  2. From Porto to Povoa de Varzim, 27 Km (16 Mi)

You will start your Portuguese Coastal Camino from Porto, touring the coast through beautiful fishing villages and white sand beaches. You will pass by Vila do Conde, where we recommend that you visit its historic center. Your path continues until you reach Povoa de Varzim, your first stop and where you will spend tonight.

  3. From Povoa de Varzim to Esposende, 22 Km (13 Mi)

Your second stage will begin in Povoa de Varzim, where it is advisable to take a walk through the medieval quarter or its picturesque harbor. Your Camino will continue along the Coast to enter later slightly inland until you reach Fao and cross the Cavado River to end in Esposende.

  4. From Esposende to Viana do Castelo, 24 Km (15 Mi)

After spending the night in the coastal town of Esposende, you find yourself facing one of the most beautiful stages of this Path. You will continue your tour along the coast crossing the Natural Park of the North coast and beautiful beaches and dunes. You will arrive at the mouth of the Neiva River along a charming road and continue a section along a wooden walkway until you reach Amorosa Beach. Finally, after crossing the Lima river by the Eiffel bridge you will arrive at Viana do Castelo, where you will spend the night.

  5. From Viana do Castelo to Vila Praia de Ancora, 19 Km (12 Mi)

Viana do Castelo is one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal with a beautiful and well preserved historic center. We also recommend visiting the Cathedral, the Temple of Santa Luzia, or the Castelo do Minho and its excellent views before continuing with your journey. Your path will continue along the coast in a simple stage until you reach Vila Praia de Ancora, your goal today.

  6. From Vila Praia de Ancora to A Guarda, 13 Km (8 Mi)

Today you will start in Portugal but you will end in Spain! Your Portuguese Coastal Camino continues towards Caminha, the last Portuguese town and where the Minho River ends. From Caminha you take a ferry that crosses the river and will leave you already in Galicia. Your path follows a short stretch to A Guarda, where you will stay tonight.

  7. From A Guarda to Baiona, 30 Km (18 Mi)

After spending the night in the beautiful seaside town of A Guarda, you will continue enjoying beautiful views of the Atlantic Coast crossing beautiful villages like Oia with its spectacular Monastery by the sea. Your Camino continues without difficulty to the Galician city of Baiona, where you will rest tonight.

Short stages option, Easy Camino: If you choose this itinerary option you can divide this stage into two stages with less route, with a first stage of 12 Km until the village of Oia , where you will spend the night, and a second stage of 18 Km until you reach Baiona.

  8. Baiona

Baiona is a small coastal city that multiplies its population in the summer months. Enjoy a walk through its beautiful harbor or through the medieval historical center. Baiona is the first port in Europe that received the news of the Discovery of America. We recommend that you also visit the Museo da Carabela Pinta.
