
The Camino del Norte from Bilbao allows starting the route in the Basque Country and continuing through the community of Cantabria. If you wish you can continue to Gijon and visit the Principado de Asturias to later continue through Galician lands until you reach Santiago de Compostela.
On the Camino del Norte from Bilbao to Santander you will pass through beautiful coastal towns and enjoy exquisite cuisine.
The first night you will spend in Bilbao, a cozy city with a historic center to explore. You can visit Basilica of Our Lady of Begoña, the famous Guggenheim contemporary art museum and try its typical Pintxos in some popular tavern.
The first of the stages is one of the simplest, something that will allow you to start being prepared for the following days. Your Camino leaves from the center of Bilbao, and later it will take you to cross the suspension bridge over the river, also known as Puente del Diablo. You will pass by the hermitage of Santa Agueda and the population of Barakaldo, until you reach Portugalete, where you will spend tonight.
Today's stage will be somewhat longer but it leaves very original memories. It is a journey marked by some climbs and by passing through villages of ancient mining tradition. You will border the Cantabrian coast until you reach Castro Urdiales.
You will continue your journey through the beautiful landscape of the Cantabrian coast, its beaches and coves, and the forests and valleys that separate them.
After spending the night in Noja, you will cross the estuary of Santoña in a Ferry that will leave you with beautiful views before continuing your way to Noja, where you will spend the night.
Your journey continues through some ascents and descents until you reach Somo, from where you can cross the bay of Santander by boat, a nice way to end your stage in the city of Santander.
In Santander we recommend taking a walk along the Sardinero Beach, visiting the Cathedral, and the historic center of the city.
